Sketch from MD Geist signed and drawn by Koichi Ohata ( 大畑 晃一 ), mecha character designer for Gunbuster & Ikki Tousen. SakuraCon - A convention that parades itself as wanting to help those with disabilities, yet bans its members who, despite having permission, help their friends with these disabilities. In March 2017, I was informed that I had been banned from SakuraCon by its management. They accused me of cutting in line despite having permission from staff to help my friends who had mobility issues. They accused me of hiding in the bathroom when we had permission from the staff to sit by the bathroom as it was the only place with physical chairs. They accused me of harassing Yoshimatsu at dinner to draw when Yoshimatsu offered and drew for everyone sitting as his table. And yet, in 2017, the artists at the guest reception all drew for attendees...and I wonder, will SakuraCon go the petty route and ban every attendee who obtained a sketch? I enjoyed how petty a con, who portrays itself as disabled friendly, acted with such impunity when it came to my ban. Clearly, unless a member is a sick child affiliated with Make-A-Wish, their disability does not matter. To ban someone who diligently spent her entire con to ensure that the needs of her disabled friends were met is beyond absurd. So, SakuraCon staff, should you be reading this, thank you for banning me. I do not want to be affiliated with a convention that parades as a champion of disabled rights when it bans a woman who has dedicated herself to helping these same people. As a law enforcement officer, it is my duty, both on and off the job, to aide those in need and uphold the law. I want nothing to do with a convention where artwork drawn to help needy children goes missing, and, after pointing it out and not receiving an official "we received it after the convention" response over a year later, is upset that she had the audacity to point out the missing artwork. SakuraCon's lack of respect not only for its disabled patrons but its law enforcement officers is disgraceful.
