Hotaru, fading in and out of consciousness, remembers her past and how her father made pact with a demon to save her life. In this scene, the demon, Pharaoh 90, begins to take over Professor Tomoe's body. This is the only mention of Hotaru's tragic death in the series. The manga and the anime tell a different version of this story. In the anime, Hotaru is present when there's an explosion at her lab that kills her. In the manga, Hotaru suffers from a medical condition where, in order to keep her alive, her father starts to replace her organs with nanotechnology. From Episode 120 - "Ijigen kara no Shinryaku!
