This episode further introduces Kobato's mission as well as the other main characters who will play a significant role in Kobato's life. First and foremost is the distant Kiyokazu Fujimoto, an employee at the kindergarten and a part time college student. Fujimoto works for his kindhearted adopted sister, Sayaka Okiura. Sayaka owns and runs the kindergarten after inheriting it from her deceased father. At the end of the episode, Kobato will volunteer to work at the kindergarten in order to repay the kindness that both Fujimoto and Sayaka show her.

You might have noticed that there's a large crease on this background. Sadly, this is quite common with artwork from Kobato. Most of the artwork was fished out of the garbage to be later resold on Japanese auction sites.
